New chair appointed to the Countryside Council for Wales

Mr Morgan Parry has been appointed to chair the Countryside Council for Wales, Environment Minister Jane Davidson announced today (29 Jan).

Mr Parry, highly regarded for his experience and commitment to the environment, will succeed the present chair Mr John Lloyd Jones when he retires on 28 February 2010.

His term of appointment is for three years beginning on 1 March 2010 and his annual salary will be £43,810.00

Minister Jane Davidson said:

"I am delighted that Morgan has accepted my offer of appointment. While John Lloyd Jones will be a hard act to follow I know that Morgan’s commitment to the environment of Wales is unquestionable and highly regarded. I look forward to working with him.

“CCW will have some significant challenges over the next three years but I am confident that Morgan will help them meet those challenges.”

Mr Parry was a founder member of Cynnal Cymru, the independent, not-for-profit organisation that promotes sustainable development and provides practical information to help people live sustainably. He is currently its chairman.

He is also a member of the Assembly Government’s Climate Change Commission for Wales, which is unpaid. In 2000 he established WWF Cymru, the Wales office of the international environment organisation, and served as Head until 2009.  He holds no other Ministerial appointments.

Throughout his career Mr Parry has worked both in the public and third sector and also as a private consultant and lecturer. He has worked for Gwynedd Council Planning Department, the Snowdonia National Park Authority and the North Wales Wildlife Trust and has a number of voluntary sector interests.
