The McGrath Group is bringing best practice in waste management to its own customer base by improving the technical knowledge of their client-facing staff. A rolling programme of technical training attended by drivers and collection operatives will enable them to pass-on practical skills to facilities management staff that will help to optimise the efficiency and environmental performance of the process.

Millions of homes are to have their weekly bin collections restored, Eric Pickles will pledge today.
The Local Government Secretary will reveal more than 70 councils intend to use a £250million government fund to end unpopular fortnightly schemes.
Mr Pickles is attempting to shame what he will call the ‘town hall Talibin’ into restoring weekly collections, saying councils have ‘no excuse’ not to bring them back and voters should punish those which don’t.

On 12 January, cabinet office minister Oliver Letwin met senior officials from the department of the environment along with representatives from the Environment Agency and Natural England and made a startling proposition. Letwin told them he wanted all environmental guidance replaced with a single 50-page document, just as the government aims to do with the 1,000 pages of planning guidance.

recyclePrintwaste Recycling & Shredding, based in the United Kingdom, has invested more than $153,000 in sorting equipment to boost the quality of the recovered fiber in processes.

The recycling facility, located in Stoke Orchard near Cheltenham, processes around six metric tons per hour of old newspaper and old magazines from curbside collection programs throughout the U.K.

Manchester’s top restaurants are backing a new scheme to push recycling leftover food waste, by assisting a local waste management company launch their Green Chef initiative.

With 7 million tonnes of food being wasted every year in the UK, the new scheme, set up by Salford based, Fresh Start Waste Services has been created to revolutionise food recycling within Manchester.

By recycling 100% of all food waste that they receive, the local waste management company’s Green Chef scheme reduces a business’s carbon footprint and also diverts food waste from landfill. Instead of the waste food being sent to landfill it is then processed to make compost.
