UKCG may make environmental training mandatory for members

altAn accredited environmental awareness training course could become mandatory for site managers and supervisors employed by members of the UK Contractors Group.

The Site Environmental Awareness Training Scheme (SEATS) will launch on 28 February and has been developed by CITB-ConstructionSkills in partnership with UKCG member firms Costain, Skanska and Wates to provide management or supervisory staff with an introduction to environmental issues on construction sites.

Nearly 80% of Sustainability Workers Pursue More Training

altSustainability is an emerging field with highly educated individuals entering into it from a wide range of backgrounds, which has created demand for specialized training, according to key findings from a survey released by Sustainable Plant.

The sustainability survey, conducted in collaboration with the International Society of Sustainability Professionals (ISSP), received input from more than 700 professionals working in the field.

Voith completes training in IHA's environmental management protocol

altMore than two dozen Voith Hydro employees have completed training in the International Hydropower Association's environmental management program, HydroWorld.com has learned.

IHA's Hydropower Sustainability Protocol covers three pillars of sustainability defined by the organization as the "social, economic and environmental" effects of a project, amongst numerous other factors.

Environmental Training to Spread Far and Wide in 2013

altIn what is reportedly the first of many such schemes, Barnsley College are offering 100 free places on a new Environmental Awareness Training course they are running in 2013! The aim is, of course, to increase awareness and give people who can really make a difference access to the genuine facts and figures, and to encourage them to think environmentally.

The course is a Level 3 Award and comes under the title Understanding the Fundamental Principles and Requirements of Environmental Technology Systems. It is directly aimed at those in management positions or those that work closely with environmental technologies and, whilst these people are likely already to know several important factors associated with environmental procedures, it aims to expand upon the basics and allow them to correctly advise customers and spread the word on the latest environment friendly technology.

Global Environmental Network Offering First Aid Courses

altGlobal Environmental Network has for some time now offered courses in environmental protection, waste management, and hazardous materials handling, but it has not until now offered first aid courses. These courses go hand in hand with environmental training, as personnel responding to an environmental or biohazard condition may be called upon to perform first aid on victims of an environmental incident.

Having staff trained in first aid procedures adds to a company’s workplace safety. Many companies investing in environmental training for their staff have expressed interest in first aid courses for cross training. As a company spokesman says, “Offering first aid courses is a natural complement to what we do and the training we provide.”

New environment training institute to be setup

altA National Environmental Training Institute would be established in the Central Environmental Authority (CEA) premises for environmental protection under the directive of Environment Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, said CEA Chairman Wimal Rubasinghe.

The new institute will be established using the available resources without making additional expenses. It will be used to create awareness on ongoing environment related activities and environmental protection. The consultation on training programmes will be provided by a staff comprised of university lecturers and experts representing other government agencies.

Centre named as council's green project of the year

altA TRAINING centre in the Neath Valley has been recognised for its green credentials.

Glynneath Training Centre has been awarded Neath Port Talbot Council's Green Project of the Year award.

Winners were announced at an Environment Awards ceremony last month in Neath where the centre also scooped the overall winners prize for 2012.
