Duty of Care awareness campaign launched as research suggests 56% of UK businesses are not complying with the law

Recent evidence of widespread non-compliance with Duty of Care legislation for waste, introduced by the government in 1990, has led to the launch of a campaign to raise awareness of the law and its requirements. The ‘right Waste, right Place’ campaign is primarily aimed at informing smaller businesses about the law and their obligations, as research suggests that 94% of non-compliant organisations are Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs).

AQMesh pods feature in Channel 4’s Dispatches

On Monday 22nd February 2016, Channel 4’s Dispatches screened an episode entitled ‘Dirty Secrets: What's Really in Our Air?’ The programme employed the latest air quality monitoring technology, supplied by Air Monitors. “The AQMesh pods were absolutely vital to the journalistic integrity of the programme,” commented Producer Roger Corke. “We were amazed at the level of technology available in such small, lightweight units – without them; it would not have been possible to identify the pollution hotspots that were the main focus of the programme.”

Urban Food and the Sustainable City

Cities cover just 2% of the planet’s surface but consume 75% of its resources. Any movement towards sustainability will need to focus on the resource-use challenges linked to production and manufacturing, a major part of which will be the role of food and agriculture. Until recently, the benefits of agriculture were considered to be part of the rural development realm. But research suggests that in the future they will be part of city life.

During the past three years, the Countryside and Community Research Institute at the University of Gloucestershire has been part of a pan-European partnership researching into good practice in food production and consumption in urban areas as part of a major EU funded food project, Supurbfood, an acronym for ‘Sustainable Urban and Periurban food provisioning’.

Newcomer Redsky Solar nominated for first award
